When your mind is always three steps ahead.
Anxiety can look like worry, panic, perfectionism, overthinking- or simply never feeling fully off-duty.
Therapy can help you understand the pattern and find different ways to respond.
ANXIETY COUNSELING IN YORK, PA
You can know you’re overthinking and still not know how to stop.
You’ve already considered what could go wrong. You’ve thought about what you’d do if it did. You’ve replayed the conversation, checked the message again, made the backup plan, and tried to convince yourself there’s nothing to worry about.
And somehow, your brain still isn’t satisfied.
Anxiety isn’t always obvious from the outside. You can be productive, responsible, social, successful, and very good at keeping things together while spending an enormous amount of energy anticipating, analyzing, preparing, checking, or trying to make sure everything is okay.
At Tides of Change, anxiety therapy isn’t about telling you to stop worrying or think more positively. It’s about understanding what keeps anxiety going and helping you respond to it differently.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY
Anxiety has more than one look.
For some people, anxiety is unmistakable: racing thoughts, panic attacks, physical tension, or a constant sense that something is wrong.
For others, it blends into everyday life so well that it starts to feel like personality.
Anxiety can look like:
ANXIETY TREATMENT
The goal isn’t to never feel anxious again.
Anxiety is part of being human. Therapy isn’t about eliminating every worried thought or teaching you to stay calm all the time. It’s about understanding the patterns that keep anxiety in charge- and building more flexibility in how you respond to them.
Depending on what anxiety looks like for you, therapy might focus on tolerating uncertainty, reducing avoidance or reassurance-seeking, working with perfectionism, responding differently to anxious thoughts, managing physical symptoms, or practicing boundaries without spending the next three days wondering whether someone is mad at you.
Our therapists draw from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based approaches, and other evidence-based or evidence-informed treatments.
You don’t need to know which approach you need before you get here. That’s something you and your therapist can figure out together.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ANXIETY THERAPY
Therapy starts with understanding you.
Your first sessions are a chance for your therapist to learn what anxiety looks like in your life, how long it has been happening, what makes it better or worse, and what you’d like to feel different.
But you’re more than a list of symptoms. Your relationships, family, culture, identity, responsibilities, past experiences, and the ways you’ve learned to cope all matter too.
From there, you and your therapist can decide what you want to work toward and which approaches make sense for you.
Tides of Change has a multidisciplinary team of therapists with different specialties, personalities, and ways of working. If you’re not sure who might be a good fit, our team can help with that too.
ANXIETY THERAPY FAQ
A few things you might be wondering.
