KETAMINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY IN YORK, PA
Sometimes talk therapy can use another way in.
You can understand your patterns remarkably well and still feel stuck inside them.
You’ve talked about what happened. You know where some of your reactions come from. You can recognize the thoughts and coping strategies in real time- and still find that insight alone hasn’t created the shift you hoped for.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, often called KAP, brings medication and psychotherapy together within one treatment process.
Ketamine isn’t the therapy itself. Instead, it is used as an adjunct to psychotherapy, with preparation before dosing and integration afterward forming important parts of the work. Journey Clinical’s current KAP protocol specifically includes preparation, dosing, and integration sessions with a licensed mental health professional.
HOW KETAMINE-ASSISTED THERAPY WORKS
The medicine is one part of the process.
KAP begins before a ketamine session ever happens.
First, you meet with Journey Clinical’s medical team for an evaluation to determine whether ketamine treatment is medically appropriate for you. Their medical team is responsible for eligibility, prescribing, treatment planning, and ongoing medical monitoring.
If you’re medically eligible, the psychotherapy portion of treatment includes three important pieces:
-
Before dosing, you and your therapist prepare for the experience, talk through what to expect, discuss your treatment goals, and create a plan for the session.
-
During a KAP dosing session, ketamine is used according to the treatment plan established by the medical provider while your trained therapist supports the therapeutic process. Journey Clinical currently uses prescribed sublingual ketamine within its KAP model.
-
Afterward, you return to the therapy. Integration sessions give you space to explore what came up, make meaning of the experience, and connect insights back to your life and ongoing therapeutic goals.
It isn’t medication over here and therapy over there.
The intention is for the two to work together.
PREPARATION & INTEGRATION
What happens around the ketamine matters.
There can be a lot of attention on the dosing experience itself. But KAP is larger than what happens during those hours.
Preparation gives you and your therapist time to establish expectations, discuss concerns, and identify what you want to bring into the experience.
Integration happens afterward.
You may remember thoughts, emotions, images, physical sensations, connections, or shifts in perspective from the dosing session. Integration gives you somewhere to explore those experiences without requiring them to be profound- or immediately make sense.
Together, you and your therapist can consider what feels meaningful and how it connects to the work you’re already doing.
Journey Clinical’s current protocol requires psychotherapy throughout the KAP process rather than treating ketamine dosing as a standalone intervention.
JOURNEY CLINICAL + TIDES OF CHANGE
Your care is collaborative.
There are two distinct clinical roles in this process.
Journey Clinical handles the medical care.
Its medical team determines eligibility, reviews medical and psychiatric history, prescribes ketamine when appropriate, develops the medical treatment plan, and provides ongoing medical monitoring and follow-up.
Your Tides of Change therapist handles the psychotherapy.
That includes preparing for KAP, supporting the therapeutic dosing process, helping you integrate afterward, and connecting the experience to your broader treatment goals.
The two sides of your care work collaboratively while maintaining their respective roles.
That distinction matters. Your therapist does not independently decide whether ketamine is medically appropriate or prescribe the medication.

Journey Clinical describes its dosing appointments as longer therapy sessions in which eligible patients self-administer their prescribed sublingual medication while supported according to the KAP protocol. Vital signs and safety parameters are part of the process. Your individual instructions come from your medical and therapy team.

Integration is psychotherapy that takes place after a ketamine experience. You and your therapist can explore thoughts, emotions, perspectives, or other material that arose during the session and consider how it connects to your ongoing therapeutic work. Journey Clinical requires integration as part of its KAP protocol.
