WORKSHOPS AT TIDES OF CHANGE
Therapy isn’t the only way to do meaningful work.
Sometimes you’re looking for something more structured than an ongoing therapy appointment.
A workshop gives you dedicated time to learn about a specific topic, understand patterns differently, and practice skills you can take with you afterward.
Throughout the year, Tides of Change may offer programming around relationships, communication, parenthood, grief and loss, coping skills, life transitions, emotional wellness, and other mental health topics based on the needs of our clients and community. Mental Health Intensives and Wo…

CURRENT WORKSHOP
THE GOTTMAN SEVEN PRINCIPLES FOR MAKING MARRIAGE WORK
A day for your relationship- not another date night pretending everything is fine.
This one-day couples workshop is presented by Danielle Heist, LPC, Gottman Seven Principles Trainer and is based on the relationship research of Dr. John Gottman and The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work.
It’s designed for couples who want practical, research-based ways to strengthen friendship, communicate differently, navigate conflict, and build a deeper connection.
That can include couples who are struggling.
It can also include couples who are doing well and want to be intentional about keeping it that way. Seven Principles workshop
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
The relationship is the subject. The skills are the point.
The Seven Principles workshop focuses on concrete relationship skills couples can continue using long after the day is over.
You’ll learn ways to:
Strengthen friendship and closeness
Build greater knowledge of each other’s inner worlds and strengthen the friendship underneath the relationship.
Increase respect and affection
Practice ways of maintaining connection and appreciation through different seasons of your relationship.
Navigate conflict more productively
Learn tools for keeping difficult conversations calmer and working through disagreements without repeatedly ending up in the same place.
Work with recurring conflict
Understand conflict gridlock and develop healthier ways to approach issues that don’t have simple solutions.
Protect what you build together
Learn ways to maintain the gains you make and continue strengthening your relationship beyond the workshop.
WHAT THE DAY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
You won't be asked to tell a room full of strangers about your relationship.
This workshop combines teaching and demonstrations with private, one-on-one exercises between you and your partner.
Danielle introduces the concepts and skills, and you and your partner have opportunities to work with them together.
Questions and participation are welcome, but public self-disclosure is not required. You do not have to discuss the private details of your relationship with the group. Seven Principles workshop
Your relationship stays yours.
WORKSHOP VS. COUPLES THERAPY
This is relationship education- not couples therapy.
The Seven Principles workshop is presented as a psychoeducational seminar.
You’ll learn research-based relationship concepts, practice skills privately with your partner, and have structured time to focus on your relationship.
It is not a substitute for individualized couples therapy, and attending the workshop does not create the same type of therapeutic relationship or individualized treatment process you would have in couples counseling. Seven Principles workshop
If you’re looking for ongoing support tailored specifically to your relationship, Tides of Change also offers couples therapy.
